“The core skills of design are synthesis, understanding people, and iterative prototyping.” - Bill Moggridge
I saw this on Twitter and couldn't agree more, but I think that much of this goes to any automation project. The highlight in red is mine and I find this to be a critical step. You need to be able to pull together any number of disparate requirements, understand what the various stakeholders really mean, synthesize a solution, and then prototype it, sometimes many, many times. I have found through the years that many stakeholders can't tell you what they want when you have that blank sheet of paper in front of them. But, when they see something, they sure can tell you what they don't like. You don't want that step to come after you have done months of development and are in the system test phase. Get something in front of the stakeholders, early and often.
